How Far Along Am I?
Pregnancy Date Information
There are two ways of dating a pregnancy, and the terminology can be a little confusing.
- Gestational Age is the term used by medical providers to date a pregnancy. It refers to how long it has been the first day of a woman’s last menstrual period. (LMP). Most references to pregnancy use gestation age.1
- Fertilization Age refers to how long it has been since conception (the fertilization of the egg by the sperm). Most women ovulate in the middle of their monthly cycle (or approximately 2 weeks before their period would begin). Example: 4 weeks from conception = 6 weeks from the LMP
