As financial troubles loom on the horizon and a recession seems likely, people are often faced with the necessity of trimming down unnecessary expenses. Giving and donations can sometimes be the first items on the chopping block. At Choices Pregnancy Centers, we certainly understand the stresses and pressures of diminishing finances. Whether you are facing a cut in salary, potential job loss, the pressures of paying for life’s expenses, college loans, or even just getting food on the table daily, it can feel like you are in survival mode. Extraneous expenses are often retrenched or dropped altogether.

We would never want anyone to feel undue pressure to donate to our ministry during lean times, and we operate from a position of faith in God’s provision. Yet, there are still a few things to keep in mind as you prayerfully consider what to do about your charitable giving.

Reasons to Continue Giving During Financially Strenuous Times:

  • When Times are Tougher, the Need is Greater

Hard or stressful times are often given to us as times of testing. This can be true in many areas of our lives, including, sometimes, our finances. In the book of Acts, when Christians were facing imminent threats, they were ready and willing to give despite their own struggles:

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:42-47)

  • The Battle We Are Facing Goes Beyond Just a Financial Battle

There is a spiritual battle going on in our culture, and abortion lies at the front and center. It’s more important now than ever that we don’t give way; we must fight for the lives of the preborn and dispel the lies and deceit often spread by influential leaders at the head of the pro-abortion industry, such as Planned Parenthood. Many young women are confused, misled, and misinformed about the reality of preborn babies and their right to life. The world needs ministries such as Choices to stand at the forefront of this battle.

  • Giving Amid Financial Strain Is Especially Precious to the Lord

Think of the widow mentioned in the Gospel of Mark, who gave out of all that she had. Her gift was greater than those who gave out of their abundance (Mark 12:44). God promises that when we give, we will receive blessings back in even greater abundance:

“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” (Luke 6:38)

  • Part of the Dominion Mandate Is Moving Forward in Faith

We need to step out in faith, trusting that Christ has been given all power and authority and believing that when we do the good work God has assigned to us, He will provide for it. We trust that God cares about young women in crisis and preborn babies. We operate from a place of faith and hope, even in the midst of an uncertain future.

Whatever you choose to do with your finances, we pray that you will make your decisions based on faith, hope, and courage for the future, knowing that they belong to Christ and that He will never abandon or forsake us.

Even in the midst of looming hardship, we want to provide a safe haven for young women facing unwanted or unplanned pregnancies. We are here to help them every step of the way with practical support, non-judgmental encouragement and guidance, and medical assistance.
